The first Bengali translation was made in prose by Nalini Mohan Sanyal in 1939. [1] It was published by Bangiya Sahitya Parishad, with a foreword by the eminent Bengali Scholar Suniti Kumar Chatterjee. However, the work is presently out of print, with the only copy available at the National Library in Kolkata. [2]
His most famous work was the translation of the ancient Hindu epic Mahabharata into Bengali. Singha's book Hootum Pyanchar Naksha ( lit. ' Sketches by a Watching Owl ' ), a compilation of satirical social sketches, is another work that is noted for reflecting Bengalee urban society of the time.

Buddhadeva Bose (Bengali: বুদ্ধদেব বসু;2 September 1908 – 14 August 1974), [2] also spelt Buddhadeb Bosu, was an Indian Bengali writer of the 20th century. Frequently referred to as a poet, he was a versatile writer who wrote novels, short stories, plays and essays in addition to poetry.

According to Ghil'ad Zuckermann, "Iconicity might be the reason for refraining from translating Hallelujah and Amen in so many languages, as if the sounds of such basic religious notions have to do with their referents themselves – as if by losing the sound, one might lose the meaning.
