Best mechanical pencils are from Japan, and technically Japanese (Pentel) has the most advanced technology (0.2mm pencils/leads with 0.1mm prototypes). Some people think heavier the pencil better it is, and they don't use them much so they go for all metal heavy pencils, I'm more practical and I use my pencils every day.

For all my sketches and most of my drawings, I use General's Layout Pencils #555. I had a professor make us use them for his class, and let me tell you, those pencils changed my life. Well, it was more like the professor's philosophy about pencils changed my life. Anyway, since then, those pencils are all I use ☺. 2.
One of them does talk about leaving your mistakes, calling them 'restarts'. If your end goal is pencil drawings, I'd use a pencil. If your end goal is illustrations, cartoons, anime, or something else along those lines, I'd use pen since that's what they use. If your specific goal is to draw without erasing then yes.

get Betty Edwards's "Drawing with the right side of the brain". do EVERY exercise, religiously. I've seen the most amazing results with people I've trained and myself. Try, please try, to find a drawing circle, with live models, naked preferably, using photos as a reference is ok, but trust me, nothing beats seeing some in 3D and translating it ...
