Smith has one of the best warranties on the market! I sent my 3 year old Frontmans in because the edges started delaminating. They do not make that style anymore so I got a $219 credit (the original price of the glasses!) with which I was able to pick out another pair that they sent me (free shipping!)
I bought a pair of Smith Cromapops almost a year ago and they quickly became my favorite glasses, very comfortable and great optics, I have several pairs of Costa's and one Maui Jim. And the lenses developed spots at about the ten month point, I sent them back and Smith is sending me a new pair.
Smith poly lenses delaminate over time no matter what. My wife doesn't fish and keeps her glasses in her purse - she's had a few pairs delaminate. No long exposure to heat or salt water. Another lens issue, and I've had this both on Smith and Costa, is the mirrored poly lenses and here is what I learned.
Had a pair of smith optics, Guides Choice with the Havana Lens with chroma pop +. After a short amount of time, the finish on the glasses started to disappear. Not really peeling off, but looked like it had just flaked off every time I cleaned them. I know two other people with exact same issue.
With that said, Ive been noticing smith has been gaining popularity. They've collabed with howler bros, and have been advertising a lot on the fishing channels. So, I was wanting to hear from someone on here who sight fishes redfish a lot, like me, and who has truly tried the 580 GLASS costas, and the smith chromapops (let me know what color too).
Smith optics wants me to destroy a great pair of expensive fishing glasses with bifocals for a warranty claim and a measley $150 credit because they can't provide a nose piece (single pad). That's just not right.
(Costa Corbina 580g versus Smith Guide's Choice TechLite Polarchromic Ignitor versus Smith Dolen ChromaPop polarized). My main objective conclusion was that in all light conditions, but the especially in low light, Smith's antireflective coatings failed to stop annoying reflections on the insides of the lenses.
The costa 580g lens is superior unfortunately (except in lowlight versions where Smith is better). I have both and bought the Smith because I was sick of the rubber falling off of the costas every 6-8 months. Theyre very close, but, 580G wins. Most of my friends are switch to the RCI's now and I will probably try those next time my Costa's fall ...
I recently purchased a 460 XVR for the purpose of whitetail deer hunting here in Missouri as they recently changed muzzleloader season to "alternative method" season. This now allows the use of centerfire pistol. I've looked around at pistol scopes but they don't really seem all that...
Wanted to see opinions on this. I bought a new S&W Governor a few weeks ago and noticed one of the lands on the rifling was pretty bad. So before I shot it I called customer service and they said they would have to look at it, and they sent me a shipping label to send it in. Get it back today...
