At the opening of the park, the building was originally known as Explorer's Club Restaurant.Housed in a colonial estate in a lush jungle where adventurers rest and have meals, the Club allowed guests to encounter famous European explorers, portrayed by cast actors, like David Livingstone or Ernest Hemingway.
The restaurant is located on 1401, Flower Street, which is also the location of Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California. The three dining rooms located on the ground floor were removed in 1999 to make way for Lilly's Boutique, a shop themed to Lillian Disney, and designed to sell home items.

The restaurant is located beside Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle), in an old French inn-like building, resembling Cinderella's Château from the movie, complete with a fountain of the princess at the entrance, her pumpkin-shaped carriage, and the tower where she is locked up most of the time.
