Ontonagon (/ ˌ ɒ n t ə ˈ n ɑː ɡ ən / ON-tə-NAH-gən) is a village in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan.The population was 1,285 at the 2020 census.It is the county seat of Ontonagon County, and is the only incorporated place within the county.
The Ontonagon Light is a lighthouse located off M-64 near Ontonagon, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 [ 2 ] and designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1973.
The east and west entrance piers are 2,315 feet and 2,563 feet long, respectively. A flared approach channel extends 850 feet to deep water. The inner basin is 900 feet long and 12 feet deep. The Ontonagon harbor is the only refuge for small craft between the Keweenaw Waterway upper entrance and Black River Harbor. [4]

Porcupine Mountains State Park was established in 1945 to protect the area's large stand of old-growth forest, much of it of the "maple-hemlock" type. In 1972, Michigan passed the Wilderness and Natural Areas Act. This act gave the park the new designation of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.

Bond Falls is a waterfall on the middle branch of the Ontonagon River, a few miles east of Paulding in Haight Township in southern Ontonagon County, Michigan. The site is near U.S. Highway 45 in the western portion of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The waterfalls are listed by the state of Michigan as the Bond Falls Scenic Site.
