The RS tours list the "activity level" for each day's itinerary, defined as follows: Light = 2-4 miles of mostly level walking throughout the day. Moderate = 2-6 miles walking throughout the day with some hills and stairs.

Occasionally a Rick Steves staff member will also reply and you will be able to tell who they are as they will have a RS logo beside their name. I do agree with the city tours being perhaps more doable. I also suggest you look at Road Scholar tours. This company used to be Elder Hostel but changed a number of years ago to Road Scholar.

  4. R S Trips For Older and Slower Travelers - Rick Steves

Every year, we in our Tour Planning Team (including Rick) have a discussion about whether or not we may be excluding a demographic from our tours because of their strenuousness. We’ve discussed offering slower paced tours, using hotels with elevators and/or porter service and allowing more time to complete group activities/sightsee, and ...

You are still a go-go. 4 miles a day is pretty darn good. My opinion-- enjoy your go-go years and do as many go-go tours you can until you can't. Enjoy travel while you can before mobility truly could become an issue. RS tours (from my one time experience) had moderate walking tours in the morning to see the sights.

  6. Senior Tours? - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/senior-tours

All of our (self) tours are for Seniors. We are 64 and 73! :-) Seriously, if you are writing to Mr. Steves, this is a volunteer forum, but I believe you'll find the tours are for all ages and perhaps attendees skewed toward the senior end of the age spectrum.

I just turned 80 and my wife is 78. We are in pretty good shape and fairly active - we walk our dog, hike in national parks, and go to the gym at least once a week. We have been on two Rick tours - Adriatic and Sicily. I’m thinking of booking Rick’s Switzerland trip next year. How hard are walks...

  8. Recommendations for US tour companies for seniors - Rick Steves

There are always a number of solo travelers on the trips. They are similar to Rick's tours in that they will room you with another person if you choose to do that. I, personally, always pay extra for the single supplement but that's just my preference. The 5 US tours I've done have all been activity based.

I have taken 14 RS tours - soon to take #15 & #16 - almost always one a year since 2001 and I am now 72. So, I started taking RS tours when I was 54, I think. I have noticed the average age of the tour members getting somewhat older on the tours that I have taken, mostly in the Spring or Fall. I have never been the oldest person on a tour.

My self and a group of friends, all seniors, are thinking of traveling to Italy on one of Rick's tours, but are unsure whether the trip would be to rigorous. We are all in good physical condition but would like to know if the majority of people making these tours are very young.

  11. Price comparison between a guided tour vs. booking ... - Rick...

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/tours/price...

There are two drawbacks to consider. One is that the tours invariably feature sites and visits that some traveling independently would not visit for lack of interest--sometimes, looking at an itinerary, I think only Rick Steves, whose preferences can on occasion be odd, would have included this stop or activity.
