Richard Lloyd Anderson (9 May 1926 – 12 August 2018) was an American lawyer and theologist of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who was a professor of church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University (BYU). His book Investigating the Book of Mormon Witnesses is widely considered the definitive work on this subject. [1]

The Church of Christ, informally referred to as the Church of Christ (Whitmerite), was founded by David Whitmer, one of the Three Witnesses to the Book of Mormon's Golden Plates, who had been excommunicated from the Church of the Latter Day Saints. There were actually two separate organizations of this church.
Early participants also included the Three Witnesses and the Eight Witnesses to the Book of Mormon and members of the extended Whitmer and Smith families. Other early members included friends and acquaintances of the Smith and Whitmer families, such as Orrin Porter Rockwell.
