FM 220 was previously designated in Hamilton County on June 18, 1945, from Lanham to Fairy. On November 23, 1948, it was extended north to US 281 at Hico. On July 14, 1949, the designation was extended south 4.7 miles (7.6 km) to a road intersection. On October 30, 1950, FM 220 was renumbered FM 1602 to avoid conflict with nearby SH 220. [27] [29]
