University of Kerala (formerly known as University of Travancore) is a state-run public university in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore , Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university.
All admissions are based exclusively on merit and arranged through the Centralized Admission Procedure (CAP) of the government of Kerala. All the students need to pay the fees only at the Government rate. Top rank holders of the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted by government of Kerala opt for this college.
This amendment followed a 2022 interim order from the Kerala High Court, which had prohibited the University of Calicut and the University of Kerala from offering programs already available through SGOU. After the order, these universities began offering non-overlapping programmes. In 2023, the Kerala High Court reaffirmed its initial order. [7]

It also hosted cricket matches. [2] The stadium is owned by the University of Kerala and was opened in 1940. The stadium has a capacity of 20,000.
In June 2024, the Kerala University student union announced that Bollywood actor Sunny Leone would be headling their "Revnza" event. The announcement got widespread publicity, but shortly thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University denied permission for Leone's appearance as headliner in the program.
