Laether, thanks so much for the link to the Pfaff parts manual, and to UWE for the videos. I have owned a Pfaff 545 H4 for about 10 years now, only occasionally sewing on it for my sailboat and more recently auto upholtery. It is a very robust machine. I do have a question for anyone on the presser foot tension.

Hello all, I just completed a Consew servo motor install on my Pfaff 545 walking foot industrial sewing machine, so I thought Id take a few minutes to explain how this machine works including a description of the speed reducer, and the servo motor. Alternatives are Singer 201, Singer 15, Pfaff 30 and many brands of Japanese made machines. If you sew a combined thickness of leather below 1.5 mm, I think the drop feed machines are likely to produce a better balanced stitch than a combined feed walking foot machine.

The Pfaff 130, 230 or 360 type of sewing machines have two plastic gears one driving the hook and one at the zizgzag fork. I don’t think it matters that much because it doesn’t require much to turn the hook and make the needle from left to right.

I’m just speculating here, but it looks like Pfaff changed their serial numbering scheme some time in 1967. The serial numbers in the chart above jump from 9,000,000 in 1967 to 29,000,000 in 1968. It’s unlikely that Pfaff suddenly produced 20,000,000 sewing machines in 1967.

The Pfaff 34 is the same generation as my Pfaff 38 (zigzag). My 38 had considerably less pressurefootpressure than my other commercial machines; it was more in line with a good homesewingmachine. My Pfaff 145 has about 40 pounds footpressure, my Adler 5 about 50 pounds, my Singer 29 about 30 pounds and my Pfaff 38 about 10 pounds.

There is a Pfaff 118 industrial zigzag that is being offered to me for a great price. I have, however, been unable to find out very much about the machine; I know it is a semi self oiler, has reverse, and comes with table, light and motor. What I dont know, however, is what weight thread it can h...
