According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km 2), all land. Bellefonte is in the northwestern corner of and is surrounded by Spring Township.
It is a part of the Bellefonte Area School District. The district (this is the sole comprehensive high school of the district) covers the Borough of Bellefonte and the townships of Marion , Spring , and Walker , as well as most of Benner Township , in Centre County, Pennsylvania .
Following several geological surveys, the district settled on the 107.6 acres behind the current Bellefonte Area High School that was purchased for $4.5 million in 2011.
