In 1956, the United States, Canada, and Mexico came to an agreement with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, the Automobile Manufacturers Association and the National Safety Council that standardized the size for license plates for vehicles (except those for motorcycles) at 6 inches (15 cm) in height by 12 inches (30 cm) in width, with standardized mounting holes. The area started as a stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway in the mid-1880s. It was named for county commissioner and chief justice Carey Cobb. A post office was established at Cobb in 1897 and remained operational until 1923. There were two general stores in 1914. It had several businesses and farms shown on county maps in the 1930s.
She is based in Galveston, Texas, and is one of the oldest ships sailing today. Launched in 1877, she is now a museum ship at the Galveston Historic Seaport. She was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. The Texas Legislature designated Elissa the official tall ship of Texas in 2005. [3]
