Pier-Philippe Chevigny (born 1988) is a Canadian film director and screenwriter from Quebec, [1] most noted for his 2019 short film Rebel (Recrue), [2] and his 2023 feature debut Richelieu. Originally from Contrecœur, Quebec, he is a graduate of the film school at the Université de Montréal. [3]
Cardinal Richelieu is a 1935 American historical film directed by Rowland V. Lee and starring George Arliss, Maureen O'Sullivan, Edward Arnold and Cesar Romero. [1] It was based on the 1839 play Richelieu by Edward Bulwer-Lytton depicting the life of the great seventeenth century French statesman Cardinal Richelieu and his dealings with Louis XIII.
During the Anglo-French War (1627–29), which involved suppression of the Protestant rebels of La Rochelle, Cardinal Richelieu continues the machinations he began in The Three Musketeers by ordering the Count de Rochefort to kidnap Constance Bonacieux, dressmaker to Queen Anne of France.
His first film role was a poet in The Pursuit of the Phantom in 1914. [4] In 1915 he acted in the film Ghosts based on a play by Henrik Ibsen. [5] He portrayed Cardinal Richelieu in the following four films, The Three Musketeers (1921), The Iron Mask (1929), The Three Musketeers (1935) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1939). [5]
