Wylie is a city and northeastern suburb of Dallas, that was once solely located in Collin County, but now extends into neighboring Dallas and Rockwall counties in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on State Route 78 about 24 miles (39 km) northeast of central Dallas and centrally located between nearby Lavon Lake and Lake Ray Hubbard .

The highway continues to the north through Rockwall along Goliad Street. Near the town square, SH 205 runs along a pair of one-way streets with northbound traffic traveling on Goliad Street and southbound on Alamo Road, intersecting SH 66 in downtown. Leaving the downtown Rockwall area, the highway becomes a two-way road again.
Wylie was named after J. J. Wylie, an early settler, who moved Taylor County in 1880. The first settlers farmed in the Wylie area beginning in 1881, but Wylie as a community did not develop until 1902, when John H. Vance arrived from Austin, Texas. In 1990, SH 78 was flooded, as engineers at the Lake Lavon Dam decided to release the water from the lake into the East Fork of the Trinity River. For a month and a half, the traffic going between Wylie and the eastern portion of Collin County was diverted to go through the city of Rockwall, a nearly 20-mile (32 km) detour.
