The Iowa Hawkeyes football program is a college football team that represents the University of Iowa in the Big Ten Conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The program has had 25 head coaches since organized football began in 1889. Iowa has played in over 1,200 games during its 127 seasons.

Following Bull's tenure, Iowa hired Otto Wagonhurst, the last Hawkeye coach until John G. Griffith in 1909 to lead the team for only one season. [ 9 ] Alden Knipe coached the team in 1898, and Knipe was the first Iowa football coach ever rehired for a second season in 1899.
He became the all-time wins leader in school history, (144) with a victory over Northern Illinois on September 1, 2018, and has led Iowa to 19 bowl games, more bowls than any other Iowa coach.
