The Dawson County Courthouse, built in 1858, is a historic two-story redbrick courthouse building located on Courthouse Square in Dawsonville, Georgia. It was built as a simple 50 feet (15 m) by 36 feet (11 m) brick building in 1858. An addition was added in 1958. [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. [1]

The United States District Court for the District of Georgia was one of the original 13 courts established by the Judiciary Act of 1789, 1 Stat. 73, on September 24, 1789. [1] The District was subdivided into Northern and Southern Districts on August 11, 1848, by 9 Stat. 280.
In April, a Franklin County grand jury had issued an indictment against Dawson for 10 counts of sexual battery. Dawson had been released from custody after posting a $100,000 bond on that case.
In 2008, O'Shaughnessy ran for and was elected Clerk of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. She was unopposed in her 2012 election, and received 67% of the vote in both her 2016 and 2020 re-election campaigns.
