Norfolk and Western 611, also known as the "Spirit of Roanoke" and the "Queen of Steam", is the only surviving example of Norfolk and Western's (N&W) class J 4-8-4 type "Northern" streamlined steam locomotives.

No. 611 has been restored to operating condition for excursion service again in 2015. [7] On May 18, 2020, Norfolk Southern abandoned the Roanoke Shops and moved all operations to the Juniata Locomotive Shops in Altoona, Pennsylvania. [8] In July 2023, Genesis Rail Services leased a portion of the Roanoke Shops. [9]
