A recent Gunbroker auction brought this to mind as well as previous discussions on actual production dates for the earliest Glock 17 pistols. While I believe it is possible for a serial number prefix to have more than one date code it may not be possible to have more than the letter prefix of the serial number available.
Due to the crowdsourcing variability on the Glock Date Codes Thread, I attempted to find pictures to accompany the data. Early Glock barrel date codes by Serial Number (SN) Glock Date Codes by Serial Number I included all of the US imported and non-imported 17.1 serial number prefix that I am aware of, and have found examples for most.

Glock today is the same as it was yesterday. The minute details have changed, but really... not a lot changed that is significant to the features or functions we expect of Glock. Looking for the following Glocks: Gen 1 19 DN serial number prefix, AA prefix Gen 1 17, Gen 1 17 in 9x21, P82, P80, G30 and or G30SF FDE RTF2, ELP prefix engraved, 17T in 9X21 A.C., 19P, 19R, 17M FDE, 17M OD, 19M OD, any M series trainer (R, P, T or CA), any Gen 5 R,P or T trainer.
MY personal preference is for the Glock 17. But, that is because it is a gun that fits me exceptionally well (think: the way a lot of guys describe the way a G19 fits them), and because I have 20 years of experience with it.
If given the option I would. Unfortunately the department has a policy of having only 15 rd magazines for the Glock 17. My Glock 26 sits in my locker because I prefer my 19 over it (5 more rounds and a slightly more comfortable grip for me.)

The frame on either is the same frame that was being used on the Glock 17 at the time either was produced. Although I don't believe Glock has yet produced any Gen4 17L models, the model 34 has been made in Gen4 configuration as well as its original Gen3 version; but the 17L has been around for a long time (it was the second model Glock ever ...
