Belle Meade is a city in Davidson County, Tennessee. Its total land area is 3.1 square miles (8.0 km 2), and its population was 2,901 at the time of the 2020 census. [5] [6] Belle Meade operates independently as a city, complete with its own regulations, a city hall, and police force, but it is also integrated with the Nashville government. [7]

Davidson County is the oldest county in the 41-county region of Middle Tennessee.It dates to 1783, shortly after the end of the American Revolution, when the North Carolina legislature created the county and named it in honor of William Lee Davidson, [4] a North Carolina general who was killed opposing the crossing of the Catawba River by General Cornwallis's British forces on February 1, 1781.
The balance includes the area of Davidson County that made up the City of Nashville prior to the 1963 merger with Davidson County as well as large areas of previously unincorporated land. As of 2017, the balance population was 667,560. The 2000 population was 545,524. [1]
