The Academy San Francisco @ McAteer, formally known as Academy of Arts & Sciences is a public high school located in San Francisco, California. The school is a member of the San Francisco Unified School District .
In 1983, the SFUSD attempted to ensure racial desegregation at Lowell and other schools by implementing a race-based admissions policy as a result of San Francisco NAACP v. San Francisco Unified School District and the 1983 Consent Decree settlement. The demographics began to disproportionately impact Chinese Americans in the 80s and 90s. [29]

In 2005 a new public high school, the Academy of Arts and Sciences, was started and shares the McAteer campus with SOTA. Although it shares the campus with the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, it is a completely separate school. [4] Now called The Academy - San Francisco @ McAteer, it admits students through the normal high school admissions process.
In April 2009, Sanchez left his teaching job at a charter school in Redwood City, California to begin shadowing principals in San Francisco to learn more about the job. [43] In May 2009, the San Francisco school board waived its own rules and offered Sanchez a one-year interim position as principal of Horace Mann Middle School. [44]
June Jordan School for Equity was founded in 2003 by Small Schools for Equity (SSE), a non-profit organization formed by a group of teachers, parents, and students who believed that San Francisco needed a new and innovative model of schooling.
