The descriptive name "Islote Plato" (plate island) was given by Ministerio de Defensa, Argentina, 1977. Danger Island was sighted by the French ship La Bouffonne in 1777. It was given its name by lieutenant Archibald Blair [4] during his 1786 survey of the Chagos archipelago. . There are two passages into the lagoon along the Northern Rim, Fausse Passe in the northeast and a wider passage in the northwest.
