Adzuddin bin Haji Mantrang was appointed as the 13th Principal of Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah College in October 2022, succeeding Abang Othman who has served the post since October 2019. Prior to that, Adzuddin was the principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lundu. He is also the Deputy President of Kesatuan Guru Bumiputera Sarawak (KGBS).
The school provides education for students from form 1 to form 5. Form 1 and form 4 students are selected by the Sektor Sekolah Berasrama Penuh to enrol in the school. Students with excellent Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) results and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) will be shortlisted to be offered to study in the school.
During its early establishment, SMAPK was temporarily posted at Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan Labu, Negeri Sembilan for about 6 months. The registration for the first students intake for this school was held on 13 January 1990. 153 students of Form 1 had registered and received their learning from only 5 teachers including the first principal, En. Mohd. Saim Ithnin.

In 1989, the school was renamed Religious High School of Sungai Manggis (Sekolah Agama Menengah Tinggi Sungai Manggis) which offered education for Form 1 to Upper Form 6. On May 14, 1991, a new block of 5 classrooms were built with the cooperation of the school and the PTA (Parent Teacher Assoc.).
