FM 1462 was designated on July 14, 1949, from SH 288 at Rosharon to SH 35 south of Alvin. On September 27, 1960, the road was extended west 7.0 miles (11.3 km) to the Brazos River. On October 10, 1961, the road was extended to SH 36 north of Damon, replacing a section of FM 762.
