Bing & Grøndahl was founded on 15 April 1853 by Grøndahl, who was a figurine maker for the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory, and the Bing brothers, who were art and book dealers. The factory was located on the corner of Vesterbrogade and Rahbek Allé in the Vesterbro area, at that time outside the city of Copenhagen , Denmark.
In recent years, Royal Copenhagen acquired Georg Jensen in 1972, incorporated with Holmegaard Glass Factory in 1985, and finally Bing & Grøndahl in 1987. Royal Copenhagen was a part of a group of Scandinavian companies, Royal Scandinavia, together with Georg Jensen, and was owned by a Danish private equity fund, Axcel.
The first Christmas plate was issued by Bing & Grøndahl in 1895. Harald Bing came up with the idea, hoping to develop a series with Danish scenes. Designed by Frans August Hallin (1865–1947), the first plate is titled Bag den Frosne Rude (Behind the Frosted Pane) with a view of some of Copenhagen's landmark buildings at night as seen through the icy windows of Frederiksberg Palace.
Fanny Susanne Garde (1855–1928) was a Danish porcelain painter who worked for the Bing & Grøndahl porcelain factory from 1886. She began by decorating the company's Heron dinnerware set (Hejrestellet), which proved to be an award-winning success in underglaze painting .
Launy Grøndahl (30 June 1886 – 21 January 1960) was a Danish conductor and composer. Grøndahl studied the violin from the age of eight. [ 1 ] His first work as a professional musician was as a violinist with the Orchestra of the Casino Theatre in Copenhagen, aged thirteen.

It was inspired by the trombone section of the Orchestra of the Casino Theatre in Copenhagen (of which Grøndahl had been a violinist since the age of thirteen). This work was premiered in Copenhagen by the Orchestra of the Casino Theatre with soloist Vilhelm Aarkrogh, the principal trombonist of the orchestra. [ 1 ]
Grøndahl & Søn Forlag was a Norwegian publishing house established in 1812. Christopher Grøndahl (1784–1864) started it as a print in 1812, before it started commercial publishing in 1875. [ 1 ] In 1925 the company expanded into piano manufacturing when it purchased Hals , an Oslo-based piano company. [ 2 ]
