Greenmead Historical Park, also known as Greenmead Farms, is a 3.2-acre (1.3 ha) historic park located at 38125 Base Line Rd., Livonia, Michigan.It includes the 1841 Greek Revival Simmons House, six other structures contributing to the historic nature of the property, and additional buildings moved from other locations.
Greenmead Farms was originally the farm of Joshua Simmons, who moved to the property in 1825. The farm includes the 1829 North Barn (the first barn built in Livonia) and an 1841 Greek Revival farmhouse. Additional structures, including four mid-19th-century farmhouses, have been moved to the property as the surrounding area has been developed. 40
The township of Hamtramck was established in 1798; in 1901 a portion of the township centered around Joseph Campau Street was incorporated as a village. In 1856, the Ferry Seed Company was founded in Detroit; the company established a large farm at the corner of East Ferry and Woodward to grow the seeds that were sold nationwide. [ 3 ] [ note 1 ] In the mid-1880s, then-owner D. M. Ferry platted the farm into residential lots along East Ferry Avenue. [ 4 ]
