The Archers is a British radio soap opera currently broadcast on BBC Radio 4, the corporation's main spoken-word channel.Broadcast since 1951, it was famously billed as "an everyday story of country folk" and is now promoted as "a contemporary drama in a rural setting".
Over the years some of the original cast members have died, left the show or retired, and their characters have had to be replaced or killed off by the scriptwriters. One of those was the character of Simon Cooper (Eddie Robinson) a farm hand working on the farm from the very first pilot episode until his death in 1956.
