The Mast Farm is a historic farm located near Valle Crucis, Watauga County, North Carolina and is now the Mast Farm Inn. In the late 1700s, Joseph Mast walked from Pennsylvania and settled on much of the land that is now Valle Crucis. Around 1810, his son David built the two-room log cabin which now sits facing the main house at the Mast Farm.
Carr also constructed a half mile horse track on the southern bank of the Eno River, northeast of the farm buildings. [1] The farm was significantly damaged by a tornado in 1919, although the house was relatively untouched by the storm. [1]
In the early 1900s, there were 328 plantations identified in North Carolina from extant records. [ 10 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] The Sloop Point plantation in Pender County, built in 1729, is the oldest surviving plantation house and the second oldest house surviving in North Carolina, after the Lane House (built in 1718–1719 and not part of a plantation).
