Fair Park is a recreational and educational complex in Dallas, Texas, United States, located immediately east of downtown.The 277-acre (112 ha) area is registered as a Dallas Landmark and National Historic Landmark; many of the buildings were constructed for the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936.
The 1984 Dallas Grand Prix was conceived as a way to demonstrate Dallas's status as a "world-class city". [1] [2] The Formula One (F1) race took place on July 8, 1984 on a temporary street circuit in Fair Park, despite pre-race organizational problems, intense 100 °F (38 °C) heat, and poor track conditions including pavement failures.
The Texas State Fair Football Showdown took place on the third weekend of the 2018 and 2019 fair and featured Southern and Texas Southern. [14] In 2020, the Southern versus Texas Southern game moved to Arlington, Texas. The State Fair of Texas is the only fair in the United States to include a full auto show, dating back to 1913. [15]
It is annually used for the Dallas Auto Show. [4] The east side of the structure contains the original element of the Dallas Memorial Auditorium, a 9,816-seat arena. The complex also houses a 1,740-seat theater, 105 meeting rooms, and two gigantic ballrooms.

The first Championship/Indy car races in the Dallas/Fort Worth area took place at Arlington Downs Raceway in nearby Arlington, Texas. AAA sanctioned five races from 1947 to 1950. USAC sanctioned ten Championship car events at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. The race was discontinued when the track closed in 1981.
