Salt of the Earth is a 1954 American film drama written by Michael Wilson, directed by Herbert J. Biberman, and produced by Paul Jarrico.Because all three men were blacklisted by the Hollywood establishment due to their alleged involvement in communist politics, [1] Salt of the Earth was one of the first fully independent films made outside of the Hollywood studio system.
In 1914, a Ute Indian, Tse-ne-gat, also known as Everett Hatch, was accused of killing Juan Chacon, a Mexican shepherd. Tse-ne-gat met with Louisa Wetherill in Kayenta and said he was innocent. She told him to tell his story to the Indian agent. However, warned he would be arrested, Tse-ne-gat went into hiding.

In March 1914, several Utes accused Tse-ne-gat (also known as Everett Hatch), the son of the Paiute Chief Narraguinnep ("Polk"), of murdering a shepherd named Juan Chacon. When a posse attempted to arrest Tse-ne-gat in February 1915, the Paiute and Ute bands headed by Polk and Posey resisted and several people on both sides were killed or wounded.

Born in Teculután, Zacapa he was the son of Juan José Chacón Paiz and Soledad González Paiz who died during his birth. He is grandson of José Deciderio Chacón and María del Rosario Paiz, and also grandson of Vicente González Chacón and Josefa Paiz Cordón.
