WWF The Main Event is a spin-off of the show WWF Saturday Night's Main Event and occasionally aired on NBC on Friday nights. Only the first three The Main Event episodes were shown live on NBC. The final two were taped and then shown on NBC at a later date.

Saturday Night's Main Event is a series of American professional wrestling television specials produced by WWE (originally the World Wrestling Federation or WWF). It was originally broadcast by NBC from 1985 to 1992, replacing Saturday Night Live in its late night timeslot on an occasional basis throughout the year.
For the 1998 event, the winner received a match for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania XIV. This is the first Royal Rumble of the Attitude Era. The main event was a casket match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker for the WWF Championship, which Michaels won to retain the title.
