Fort Mitchell is a home rule-class city [4] in Kenton County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 8,702 at the 2020 census . It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area .
In 1989, a second location, Montgomery Inn at the Boathouse, was added in downtown Cincinnati on the banks of the Ohio River. The company added a banquet facility in the Sawyer Point area in 1998, but announced that the facility would be razed in 2006 or 2007, and the riverfront property would become a new condominium development.
Columbia Sussex began operation as Columbia Development in 1972 with the construction of a single Days Inn location in Richwood, KY. Rapid expansion followed and by 1978 the company was renamed Columbia Sussex and was the largest Days Inn franchisee with 14 locations many with restaurants named after the founder's wife, Marty.
In May of that same year, it was announced that the building would be converted into a $33 million hotel. [8] On July 25, 2014, Columbia Sussex reopened the building as the Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown Hotel with 283 rooms, 40 suites, eight meeting rooms, and nearly 14,400 square feet of total meeting space. Designed by Joseph G. Steinkamp & Brother, the Neoclassical-styled [2] Hotel Metropole opened in 1912 in downtown Cincinnati as a 10-story hotel. In 1924 an 11th floor penthouse apartment was added. In 1971 the building was converted to low-income housing with retail and restaurants on the first floor. [3]
