Benign symmetric lipomatosis, also known as Madelung's disease, is an adult-onset skin condition characterized by extensive symmetric fat deposits in the head, neck, and shoulder girdle area. [1] The symmetrical fat deposits are made of unencapsulated lipomas , which distinguishes it from typical lipomatosis which has encapsulated lipomas that ...
Dercum's disease is a rare condition characterized by multiple painful fatty tumors, called lipomas, that can grow anywhere in subcutaneous fat across the body. [1] Sometimes referred as adiposis dolorosa in medical literature, Dercum’s disease is more of a syndrome than a disease (because it has several clinically recognizable features, signs, and symptoms that are characteristic of it and ...
Corpus callosum lipoma is a rare congenital brain condition that may or may not present with symptoms. [11] This occurs in the corpus callosum, also known as the calossal commissure, which is a wide, flat bundle of neural fibers beneath the cortex in the human brain. Hibernomas are lipomas of brown fat.
Lipodystrophy syndromes are a group of genetic or acquired disorders in which the body is unable to produce and maintain healthy fat tissue. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The medical condition is characterized by abnormal or degenerative conditions of the body's adipose tissue .
Lipedema is a condition that is almost exclusively found in women [3] and results in enlargement of both legs due to deposits of fat under the skin. [2] Women of any weight may be affected [2] [3] and the fat is resistant to traditional weight-loss methods. [4]
The main cellular component of this tissue is the adipocyte, or fat cell. [14] The structure of this tissue is composed of septal (i.e. linear strands) and lobular compartments, which differ in microscopic appearance. [8] Functionally, the subcutaneous fat insulates the body, absorbs trauma, and serves as a reserve energy source. [14]
Normally MS lesions are small ovoid lesions, less than 2 cm. long, oriented perpendicular to the long axis of the brain's ventricles [18] Often they are disposed surrounding a vein [19] Demyelinization by MS. The Klüver-Barrera colored tissue show a clear decoloration in the area of the lesion (Original scale 1:100)
Recurrent ulceration and fat necrosis is associated with lipodermatosclerosis. In advanced lipodermatosclerosis the proximal leg swells from chronic venous obstruction and the lower leg shrinks from chronic ulceration and fat necrosis resulting in the inverted coke bottle appearance of the lower leg.
