Metzger is a census-designated place and unincorporated community, in Washington County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2020 census, the CDP population was 4,272. It is named for Herman Metzger, who platted the community. It is a suburb located within Portland, Oregon.
The area was wetlands in the 19th century when Peter Guild, an early settler, received it as a donation land claim in 1848. In the 1880s the Northern Pacific Railroad built the Guild's Lake Rail Yard, and rail switching facilities have ever since played an integral role in the area's development (along with US Highway 30, which runs alongside the tracks here).
The Lloyd District is a primarily commercial neighborhood in the North and Northeast sections of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is named after Ralph Lloyd (1875–1953), [3] a California rancher, oilman, and real estate developer who moved to and was an early commercial developer for the area in 1905. [4]
Sellwood originated as an independent city and as a rival of nearby early Portland on the 1,320-acre (5.3 km 2) Donation Land Claim of Reverend John Sellwood, who sold the claim in 1882 to the Sellwood Real Estate Company.
