ADL keeps a library of hate symbols and examples of their use. How is that not a legitimate source. Looks to me like someone "retired from wikipedia" had their finger's on the scales here. "88" is a well known hate symbol for "HH" or "Heil that guy with a name that starts with an H who started world war 2!" It's used online to mean this.
