The members of the underground Catholic Church in China, those who do not belong to the official Catholic Patriotic Church and are faithful to the Vatican, remain theoretically subject to persecution today. Christian Church of Guangzhou Tianhe (Chinese: 广州基督教天河堂), also known as Tianhe Church (天河堂), is a Christian TSPM Church in Guangzhou, China. It is located at No. 16-20 Daguan Middle Road, Tianhe District, and hence its name. It is considered the largest church in Guangzhou. [1]
The church was closed during the Cultural Revolution, and was reopened in 1982. About 3,400 people were baptised at the church from 1983 to 1994. Since 1985, a special worship service for individuals with blindness on the fourth Sunday of every month. By December 1998, the church had a congregation of 6,200 on record. [6]
