Fairfax, Virginia (/ ˈ f ɛər f æ k s / FAIR-faks), [a] is an independent city in Virginia and the county seat of Fairfax County, Virginia, in the United States. [4] As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,146.
A fire damaged the building in 1932, which was repaired in 1937 when the Fairfax County School Board purchased and began using it as a school again. The county held its first special education classes there in the 1950s, after which it was used as a school administration building and then as part of the Northern Virginia Police Academy .
Within its first decade of existence, NOVA Parks conserved over 3,000 acres (1,200 ha). In the ten years that followed, that number was increased to approximately 8,000 acres (3,200 ha). NOVA Parks then added sites in Clifton, VA, the City of Fairfax, VA, Fairfax County, Arlington and Alexandria, VA in the 1960s.
