A distributed-feedback laser (DFB) is a type of laser diode, quantum-cascade laser or optical-fiber laser where the active region of the device contains a periodically structured element or diffraction grating. The structure builds a one-dimensional interference grating (Bragg scattering), and the grating provides optical feedback for the laser.
Based on the formula derived for the natural linewidth, [2] [6] [8] 15 experiments on measuring the natural linewidth in Fabry-Perot lasers [2] [6] and 15 experiments in DFB lasers [2] [9] have been simulated. The derived formula for line shape of radiation (of FP lasers [2] [6] [12] and DFB lasers [2] [7]) is distinguished from Lorentz line ...
A distributed feedback (DFB) quantum cascade laser [25] is similar to a Fabry–Pérot laser, except for a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) built on top of the waveguide to prevent it from emitting at other than the desired wavelength. This forces single mode operation of the laser, even at higher operating currents.
DFB lasers are widely used in optical communication applications where a precise and stable wavelength is critical. The threshold current of this DFB laser, based on its static characteristic, is around 11 mA. The appropriate bias current in a linear regime could be taken in the middle of the static characteristic (50 mA).
Laser types with distinct laser lines are shown above the wavelength bar, while below are shown lasers that can emit in a wavelength range. The height of the lines and bars gives an indication of the maximal power/pulse energy commercially available, while the color codifies the type of laser material (see the figure description for details).
External cavity lasers using a MEMS structure for tuning the cavity length, such as devices commercialized by Iolon. External cavity lasers using multiple-prism grating arrangements for wide-range tunability. [9] DFB laser arrays based on several thermal tuned DFB lasers, in which coarse tuning is achieved by selecting the correct laser bar.
To ward off dementia, older adults may want to spend more time reading, praying, crafting, listening to music and engaging in other mentally stimulating behaviors, a new study says.
Photomicrographs of a DBR laser. A distributed Bragg reflector laser (DBR) is a type of single frequency laser diode. Other practical types of single frequency laser diodes include DFB lasers and external cavity diode lasers. A fourth type, the cleaved-coupled-cavity laser has not proven to be commercially viable.
