SoftlyAndTenderly "Softly and Tenderly" is a Christian hymn.It was composed and written by Will L. Thompson in 1880. [1] It is based on the Bible verse Mark 10:49. [2]Dwight L. Moody used "Softly and Tenderly" in many of his evangelistic rallies in America and Britain.
This article refers to the English version. The book was published on the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first LDS hymnbook, compiled by Emma Smith in 1835. Previous hymnbooks used by the church include The Manchester Hymnal (1840), The Psalmody (1889), Songs of Zion (1908), Hymns (1927), and Hymns (1948).
This hymnal includes tunes for 18 of the 90 hymns found in the 1835 hymnbook. In addition, another 17 hymns were printed without music. Hymn number one in this hymnal, "The Spirit of God", may be the very first LDS hymn ever published with musical notation.
Great Is Thy Faithfulness is a popular Christian hymn written by Thomas Chisholm (1866–1960) with music composed by William M. Runyan (1870–1957) in Baldwin City, Kansas, U.S. The phrase "great is thy faithfulness" comes from the Old Testament Book of Lamentations 3:23.

The hymn was a last minute addition to the first church hymnal, Collection of Sacred Hymns published in Kirtland, Ohio, 1835 or 1836. [9] It appears as the last song (hymn 90) and in a different typeset than the rest of the hymnal. This original version had six stanzas. [10]
