But, I also shop online: Acme tools, Northern tools, Amazon etc. I just discovered Northern tools has opened a store not too far away, so I checked it out. They've been open for a week, tomorrow is their 'grand opening' shindig. I was pleasantly surprised. These guys are full on stocking dealers for Stihl, Honda, Milwaukee and more.
Quite a few ground loops with FX3's and have also seen some with broken Acme shocks. I'm being told Beringer is the best, it is pricey, but so is the cost of repair. I'm told the 3X3 design is from the 1940's and that FX3's are heavier and newer with the design essentially outdated and a better gear design is needed.
The valving of an Acme shock is unlimited, tell them what you want and they can valve it to meet your needs. I asked Matt about this and he said last he talked to Loni that he loved the shocks. There are also multiple spring options so the shock can be tailored to different geometries, lengths and gross weights.
I just got off the phone with Justin (I think) at Acme Aero. He said they just finished all the testing with the FAA in Oregon for their Black Ops and Stinger suspension systems. They are anticipating STC approval by the end of April and have manufactured 1500 sets of gear in anticipation of high demand once the STC is official.
Acme Black Ops shocks have been certified for a little over a year. Highly highly recommend! Weight of (1) original hydrosorb w/strut @ 5.9lbs & (1) Black Ops @ 7.8lbs.
I am very blessed to have a lot of stuff at my disposal in the way of tools, welding equipment and expertise, and a&p family and friends. I’m trying to make it as minimalist as possible, while not making it uncomfortable. My intent with the plane is pretty simple, a well performing joy rider to play around on short strips with.
Sorry to say but i wouldnt buy one of those again, i had one of the earlier versions and didnt really like the construction of it and i thought looked a LITTLE weak and i didnt even have the whole plane together at the time, so i removed it and sold it, and bought the ACME stinger.
Sean showed me drop test graphs from both their new shock and the Acme and the is a slight wiggle in the Acme that he says is cavitation. He said they had to increase the size of the spring to cover the heavy Cubs and that was where the increase in weight came from.
No, but some have speculated that the computed data on the graph mirror what you would expect to see for shocks missing the required nitrogen. Acme Aero has taken the high road and hasn’t commented. They are letting their product and it’s excellent reputation speak for itself.
When it comes to 3/8-inch impact tools, I will also routinely use regular non-impact sockets on smaller jobs. With 1/2-inch, I only use impact rated sockets on 1/2-inch impact tools. 2012 2720 -- 200CX Loader -- 54" Quick Attach Snow Blower -- Frontier LR5060 Rake -- Land Pride RB1660 Blade (Hydraulic Angle) -- Artillian 42" Forks -- Ken's BOGH ...
