Layne Thomas Staley (born Layne Rutherford Staley; August 22, 1967 – April 5, 2002) [2] [3] was an American singer and songwriter who was the original lead vocalist of Alice in Chains, which rose to international fame in the early 1990s as part of Seattle's grunge movement.
Alice in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with other Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. They achieved success during the era with the albums Facelift (1990), Dirt (1992) and Alice in Chains (1995), as well as the extended play Jar of Flies (1994).
In 2011, Alice in Chains began work on their fifth studio album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, which was released on May 28, 2013. [14] Alice in Chains' sixth studio album, Rainier Fog, was released on August 24, 2018. [15] As of 2019, Alice in Chains has had 18 Top 10 songs and five No. 1 hits on Billboard ' s Mainstream Rock chart. [16]

Alice in Chains (occasionally informally referred to as the Dog Album or Tripod [5]) is the third studio album by American rock band Alice in Chains. It was released on November 7, 1995, by Columbia Records , and was the follow-up to the highly successful Dirt (1992).
"Down in a Hole" is a power ballad [2] by Alice in Chains, and the fifth and last single from their album Dirt (1992). It is the twelfth song on most pressings of the album and fourth or eleventh on others. [3] The song was written by guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell for his then-girlfriend, Courtney Clarke. [4]
"Hate to Feel" is the tenth track on American rock band Alice in Chains' album Dirt (1992). The song was included on the compilation albums Music Bank (1999) and The Essential Alice in Chains. It has also been the ninth track on later prints of the album and eleventh on others.
