    Assuming it's a flooded cell type with removable caps, get a simple battery hydrometer to check the Specific Gravity in each cell. A fully charged cell should read 1.27-1.28. Much less than that is no good. A less accurate but easier check is to measure the voltage with the battery at rest (no charging and no load).
