Hope Island Marine State Park - Mason County is a Washington state park in Mason County that is accessible only by boat. It is located due east of Steamboat Island near the Totten Inlet. The park consists of 106 acres (43 ha) of old-growth forest and salt marsh with a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) beach on Puget Sound. [4]
The beach was named "Rialto" by the famous magician Claude Alexander Conlin after the Rialto theater chain. Conlin had a home in the 1920s at Mora, overlooking the beach and ocean, until it burned in the 1930s leaving no trace as of 1967. [2] [3] Rialto Beach also features a tree graveyard, with hundreds of tree trunks deposited by storms.
The island and adjacent islets comprise Patos Island State Park, a 207-acre (0.84 km 2) marine park with 20,000 feet (6,100 m) of saltwater shoreline. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission began operating Patos Island as a state park under a lease agreement with the Bureau of Land Management in 1974. [ 4 ]
