Canton is the site of the McPherson County Fairgrounds. The McPherson County Fair has been held in Canton since 1948. [14] Six miles north of Canton on 27th Avenue and one half-mile west on Pueblo Rd is the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge. In fact, Canton has been identified as the "Gateway to Maxwell Wildlife Refuge."
The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge in McPherson County, Kansas consists of 2,574 acres (1,042 ha) of mostly mixed grass prairie. Bison and elk inhabit the refuge. The McPherson State Fishing Lake adjoins the refuge and adds another 260 acres (110 ha) of protected area, including a 46 acres (19 ha) lake.
Marion Reservoir is a body of water on the Cottonwood River, 3 miles (4.8 km) north-west of Marion on the western edge of the Flint Hills region of Kansas in the United States. [3] The reservoir was completed in 1968 for flood control and is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers .
