The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national-level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Government of India. Established in 1929 by a resolution of the government, the Board was an experiment towards inter-state integration and cooperation in the sphere of secondary education.
Vineet Joshi (born 2 November 1968) serves as Secretary in the Department of Higher Education (India) under the Ministry of Education from 26 December 2024 onwards. Previously, he served as Chief Secretary of Manipur, Director-General of National Testing Agency (NTA), which is responsible for conducting entrance examinations in India.
Until 2012, the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). In 2013, NEET-UG was introduced, conducted by CBSE, replacing AIPMT. However, due to legal challenges, NEET was temporarily replaced by AIPMT in both 2014 and 2015. In 2016, NEET was reintroduced and conducted by CBSE.
