Led by second-year head coach Bob Jauron, the Pumas compiled an overall record of 6–3 with a mark of 5–1 in conference play, sharing the ICC title with Evansville. [1]

The 1946 Saint Joseph's Pumas football team represented Saint Joseph's University as a member of the IIC. Led by head coach Richard Scharf, the Pumas compiled a 3–4 record (2–1 against IIC opponents), finished in fifth place in the IIC, and were outscored by a total of 81 to 59. [36]
The Pumas attempted only one pass, and it was also incomplete. Montana State gained 225 rushing yards on 45 carries, and Saint Joseph's gained 153 yards on 49 carries. [ 4 ] The final result was a scoreless tie, and the teams were named NAIA co-champions for the 1956 season.
