SR 88 was commissioned in 1923, on its current alignment between Garrettsville and Parkman. [3] [4] In 1927 the route was extended east to the Pennsylvania state line. [5] [6] The highway between Ravenna and SR 7 was paved in 1928. [6] [7] The section of road between SR 7 and the Pennsylvania state line was paved in 1933. [8] [9]
State Route 223 was renumbered as State Route 283 when U.S. Route 223 was created in Ohio in 1930 over U.S. Route 127, which was rerouted over part of State Route 108 (see below), and most of State Route 9 (The rest of which became part of State Route 15). US 22 extended to Cincinnati over State Route 10 in 1931.
With the creation of the "Inter-County Highway" system, two routes were formed along present-day US 52: Inter-County Highways (later State Routes [3]) 7 and 42. [4] In 1923, SR 42 was relocated to Marion-Mount Gilead routing (the new route is now SR 95) as per the highway renumbering. As a result, SR 130 was designated along SR 42's 1912 route.
Between 1912 and 1922, the corridor had been known as State Highway 8. This road extended further west to Cincinnati and east to Chillicothe. [2] [3] Following a statewide renumbering of state routes around 1923, the current highway became a part of SR 27. SR 27 ran from Cincinnati to Logan by way of Laurelville and Enterprise. [4]
