Hummel Park is located at 11808 John J. Pershing Drive in North Omaha, Nebraska. Developed on 202 acres (0.82 km 2 ) of land donated to the City of Omaha in 1930, [ 1 ] the park was named after Joseph B. Hummel, [ 2 ] a long time superintendent of Omaha's Parks and Recreation Department.

One of the earliest trails in the Omaha area is around Standing Bear Lake. The 6-foot-wide (1.8 m) trail slopes in places and is connected by a floating boardwalk that was constructed in 2020. In the early 1890s the city of Omaha renamed the lake in honor of Levi Carter after his widow donated $1,000,000 to the City of Omaha for upgrades to the area around the lake, which the city named Levi Carter Park. [4] In 1896 the United States Supreme Court ruled that the neighboring town of Carter Lake belonged to the State of Iowa. [5]
