In the United States, the wheel style was manufactured in Lansing, Michigan, by the Motor Wheel Corporation, [2] and found fame in the 1960s and 1970s on Muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO, Ford Torino, Shelby Mustang, Plymouth Barracuda and AMC Javelin. In an American context, the wheel style was known as the "Magnum 500".
The 1970 VAM Javelin followed the AMC redesign. The VAM versions included the same features as their AMC counterparts, but with new wheel cover designs resembling Magnum 500 wheels. Two hood designs were available: a center bulge with two simulated air intakes or a smoother version with two rectangular stripped trim pieces.
Some of the other unique standard items on this model included racing mirrors, antihop rear axle links, and blue painted "Magnum 500" 14x6-inch styled steel wheels with chrome beauty rings and AMC hub centers. Tires were E-70-14 fiberglass-belted, four-ply tires with red-stripe Goodyear Polyglas tires.

The "Magnum 500" road wheels were now standard, but the new "Machine" 15x7 inch slot-styled wheels became a mid-year option. The interiors of the AMX were also redesigned. The broad wood-grained dashboard, center console, and two-spoke "Rim Blow" steering wheel were new. Tall bucket seats now featured a "clamshell design" integrating the headrests.
