Phos Hilaron (Koinē Greek: Φῶς Ἱλαρόν, romanized: Fōs Ilaron) is an ancient Christian hymn originally written in Koine Greek.Often referred to in the Western Church by its Latin title Lumen Hilare, it has been translated into English as O Gladsome Light.

"Oil in My Lamp", also known as "Give Me Oil in My Lamp" and "Sing Hosanna", is a Christian hymn based on the Parable of the Ten Virgins. The song has been recorded many times and was a hit in Jamaica in 1964 for Eric "Monty" Morris, [1] as well as appearing on The Byrds' 1969 album Ballad of Easy Rider, and also as a single (on the B side of Ballad of Easy Rider, Columbia 44990).

Catholic artist Audrey Assad recorded a version of this hymn on her "Good to Me" EP in 2013. Nancy Bryan sings a version of this hymn on her album Neon Angel from 2000. Christian artist Fernando Ortega recorded a version on his album Hymns & Meditations in 1994; It has been covered by the David Crowder Band on their 1999 album All I Can Say.
The hymn was popularized in English by the English Hymnal. In the Book of Hymns (Edinburgh, 1910), p. 4, W. Rooke-Ley translates the text in connection with the O Antiphons ('Mystic dew from heaven Unto earth is given: / Break, O earth, a Saviour yield—Fairest flower of the field'). [1]
The first of several translations to English was made of the first two stanzas, "O Thou, the true and only Light", by W. Ball in 1836, which entered the Robinson's Church Psalter & Hymn Book in 1860, and other hymnals. [5] Catherine Winkworth translated the hymn to "O Christ, our true and only Light", published in her Lyra Germanica in 1858. [6]
