1960 - Columbus Symphony Chorus is organized as an auditioned all-volunteer ensemble of more than 100 voices. 1970 - The Columbus Symphony Orchestra moves its concerts to a new home, the Ohio Theatre, which was preserved in part to provide an acoustically superior hall for the orchestra.
These concerts included rock musicians like The Grateful Dead, [7] Frank Zappa, and Alice Cooper. [8] The Columbus Symphony Orchestra badly needed a permanent home and began performing at the Ohio in the fall of 1969, enjoying an increase in ticket sales thanks to excitement about the new venue.
The amphitheater opened on June 15, 1994, with a concert by The Moody Blues and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. [1] Since that time, it hosted some of the largest names in music, including: Rush, Aerosmith, Janet Jackson, Dave Matthews Band, Spice Girls, Farm Aid, and Ozzfest. Toby Keith played the final show on September 16, 2007.
